April Newsletter

Well we go from strength to strength in terms of our fundraising activities.  Hopefully you will have seen the figures Dave Smithson used as his presentation at the AGM last month and an additional £50k on top of the 2021 total of £184k is certainly something you should all be proud to have achieved.

Ellie Walker our Regional Community Manager is saying Farewell to us in May and at the AGM she was almost in tears at the thought of no longer being officially related to us however we are sure that Ellie will keep an eye on our fundraising escapades whenever she can.  However we welcomed Jason Luff as our new Community Manager, Jason already has a great deal of experience with many of our local regional branches and he is a crew member at Exmouth so he certainly knows how branches like Torbay operate.  Welcome aboard Jason.

TLF 100 Club:
A great way of supporting our Fundraising efforts is the TLF 100 Club:
For the modest sum of £2 each month you could have an entry in our 100 Club draw.
Entrants may pay for multiple entries.
Drawn at the start of each month the entry monies are allocated as follows –
·         65% to Torbay RNLI
·         20% to 1st Prize
·         10% to 2nd Prize
·        5% to 3rd Prize

So you can see the more members in the 100 Club the better the Prize fund is.
All entries may win multiple prizes in each draw and Prize monies are paid into your bank account within 10 days
To learn more or to apply, please talk to
Dave Smithson, Treasurer, 666171 or Anne Thorp, Membership Sec, 855329

Hopefully our new April – September Events Programme contains plenty of opportunities for Members to participate in, starting with;-

COMING UP:

Coffee Morning – Old Market House, The Quay, Brixham Tuesday 18 April 10a.m. – 11.30a.m.
James Hannam and his team will welcome us to this popular venue and look after us well.  Don’t forget there will be a Raffle and Cakes Stall, donations always welcome.  Entry is just our usual £3 per person.

Pirate Festival:
Then April ends with this year’s Pirate festival which for us means Cover the Flag on Saturday 29th, Sun 30th, and Mon 1st May plus Fundraising Stalls on Sunday 30th, all outside the Lifeboat Station.  I am sure Cathy has the CtF events covered with volunteers, but we would appreciate if you could spare an hour or two to run one of the Stalls.  Please let me know if you could help please.

Recent Events:
1) The children of Roselands Primary School, swapped their school uniform to dress up as Pirates the day before Half-term holidays and in doing so raised £370 for Torbay Lifeboats.
2) Torbay Area Indoor Bowling Association have donated £1,000 to us as their chosen 2021-2022 Charity and I am looking forward to going to their AGM on Thursday to present them with one of our Thank You certificates.
3) Preston Rotary Club held a Sportsman’s Dinner recently which Anne and I attended.  Nigel Owen the world class Rugby Union referee was the after-dinner guest speaker and he had us all in stitches with his rugby-related tales.  Torbay Lifeboats will be the main financial beneficiary of that event however the Club tries to share its charitable donations with a small handful of beneficiaries so I am not currently aware of how much we will receive.

In Memoriam:
We received some sad news just ahead of the AGM that one of our Members, Garry Atkinson had passed away.  We sent a card of condolence to his wife Shirley and there will be a funeral service at Stockman’s Chapel on Saturday 22 April at 3 p.m.
