StormFest 160
Nick O’Brien the Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM) and as such, the “top man” has just released the following.Nick was one of the “red hatted” Gig rowers and addressed the crowds following Helen’s wonderful address.
StormFest 160 update:
I hope you all got to enjoy last week’s StormFest 160 event. It was a tremendous success with perfect summer weather and with great support from the community in Brixham and Torquay. We even had a few supporters cheering us along and donating as dawn broke in Teignmouth. I’m delighted to announce that – together – we raised a little over £11,500 from the day’s events. A fantastic result!
It was a long day, the planning for which started early this year. It was all made possible only through the hard work of you all – lifeboat crew, onshore crew, fundraiser and retailing teams, Water Safety team – both on the day and in the run-up to the day. Thank you to you all – we couldn’t have done it without everyone pulling together. The event showed the ethos that OneCrew is alive and well in Torbay.
Thank you too, to your wives, husbands, partners and families. They support us year-round in the work we do, but were an integral part of the day’s events, with many assembling at 6am on a chilly weekend morning in Teignmouth to begin the gig pull.
Thanks to the core committee that coordinated the planning of the event – Richard, Simon, Peter and Klaus. They were supported by many more RNLI volunteer members and quite a few non-RNLI folks who took on key tasks that ensured the day ran smoothly.
And finally, without wishing to underplay anyone’s contribution to the event, a big thank you to Mike Good. Mike spent 3 days meticulously wrapping a gig boat in the colours of a 19th-century lifeboat. It became a focal point of the event on the pull, on the row across the bay and in the harbour at the commemoration. He did it alongside all his other commitments – work, family, shouts – and also in parallel to his training for his lifeboat mechanic’s assessment which he successfully passed in July.
Thanks to you all. I hope you can now enjoy a relaxing long bank holiday weekend.
Best wishes,
Nick.

On Sunday 31st, Kevin Smith went “the extra mile” along Brixham Breakwater in a marathon run to raise funds for the RNLI Torbay. An amazing effort, thank you to all who came to cheer, support and join in too!

This is Mya. She had an amazing day at our Torbay RNLI station.
Her Granddad knew one of the engineers at Brixham and he kindly took her plus Mum and Granddad on a tour.
Mya got to use the winch and sit in every seat.
Start them off young!

The RNLI Torbay Lifeboat Fundraising Team (TLF) work throughout the year to raise
funds to support the RNLI and the two Torbay lifeboats. An ALB Station costs in excess
of £215,000 a year to run so TLF’s fundraising is vital to support RNLI operations.
The expenses of operating and maintaining the lifeboat fleet and organising and supporting the lifeguards training and rollout do not go away. Fundraising events have practically ceased. You can maintain your support of the charity by using this link. We need your support now more than ever.
Our local supporters can now buy items from ‘our’ shop using the link https://shop.rnli.org
