December Newsletter (2)

December (2) Newsletter:

Hi Everyone
I promised you another Newsletter during this month so here we go;-

Events – Recent: Coffee Morning: Our December Coffee Morning at the Yacht Club raised an amazing £520.55p bringing it close to the earlier event in the year at the Berry Head Hotel.  Apart from entry donations, £212, the Raffle made an amazing £169 and the Cakes Stall really took off with £135 so many thanks to all who supported this Event. Please don’t forget, if you have not yet renewed your Annual Subs please contact Anne on 855329 or annethorp43@outlook.com

Mollys, Paignton: Owners Nick & Tracey Bright auctioned 2 wonderful holidays + a Grand Raffle at their Café/Bar in Paignton Harbour at the end of October and raised £5,000 for TLF. I will be presenting them with a Thank You Certificate on your behalf next Sunday.

Events – To Come: This Saturday Paul O’Brien who is a busker/musician based in Paignton is performing on our behalf, Christmas songs and Carols with his “choir” outside Sainsburys at the Willows between 12 and 2 pm this Saturday 17 Dec.  He is also booked to perform at the Livermead Hotel on Christmas Eve and the Hotel has pledged to make a donation to us.  If you can, please go along and support him (and us).

New Year’s Party: You will see from the current Programme that we are welcoming New Year with an afternoon Buffet Tea party with musical entertainment by Bev & Chris (“Planet Uke”). Many of you will have seen them perform at the Afternoon Cream Teas at the Berry Head Hotel earlier this year so you know we are in for a treat.  Event takes place on Wed 11 January at the Brixham Rugby Club, 2pm – 4pm tickets just £8 available from Anne Thorp. Booking Essential.

We shall have tickets available at the Christmas Lunch but by all means drop your ticket payment (cash please) into the Shop, Kiosk or to 7 Leader Close, TQ5 9FQ.

New LBS: Just to make sure you know about this, earlier this year the RNLI purchased the complex previously occupied by the Coastguard/MTS opposite the “Man & Boy” statue as our future Lifeboat Station, it is envisaged that it will include a Retail outlet, Visitor Centre, Training/Maintenance facility as well as providing, primarily, superb accommodation for our Crew.  This will obviously be a long-term project however following on from the weather affected “Lights, Lanterns, Illuminations” celebrations our Treasurer Dave Smithson has marked the acquisition with our own “insignia” (see below).
Please do take a trip along the Quay and check it out.

“Just Giving” & Kilimanjaro: We have recently been notified by Poole that TLF is in the top 5% of Branches in terms of our Just Giving web pages.  This year the Kilimanjaro Project will have been instrumental on this front.
The Crew have worked so very hard in raising their target of £60,000, which, they have now surpassed and have raised their aspirations accordingly.  Such has been the geographical breadth of their activities during the year we have not been able to offer a great deal of personal support to the various challenges, however you can still donate towards the Project by donating to www.justgiving.com/campaign/RNLITorbayKili23.  Their next Challenges are a Drive around the LBS of the South West (postponed until 2023) and the “big one”, the Climb itself in February.  Let’s wish them all the very Best in their endeavours.

Lifeboat Activities: As last year I think it is true to say that Torbay are one of THE busiest Lifeboat Crews in the UK.  Our All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) responding 42 times and the Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) an amazing 67 times, once again surpassing 100 Shouts, and the month is not yet over.

Recent statistics show the ALB rescued 13 people and the ILB 31.

Kind Regards

Peter
