December Newsletter

Hi everyone

So, we have managed to make it through the extremely difficult year to our final TLF round-up of 2020!   As you know I have been Chair of TLF for many years, but 2020 has been the most challenging in my role, and not only for me but for all of you, your families and our Torbay Crew.   Let’s hope that light at the end of the tunnel continues to get brighter!

The TLF committee have worked extremely hard all year and have been creative in coming up with ideas on how we can continue to fundraise during lockdowns and social distancing restrictions, no mean feat.  However, I think we have done extremely well, and I would like to begin this month by thanking our nine TLF committee members for their hard work, continued support, and absolute dedication to our fundraising cause.

We have one final TLF fundraiser left in our programme this year – our online ’12 Days of Christmas Jigsaw Challenge’.    It will be a week-long challenge to complete the 1000-piece jigsaw – beginning on 7th December, further details will be published in the coming days.   Can I appeal to you all to please support this challenge and round off our fundraising year with a bang!   Our fundraising target for this Challenge is £250……..we know we can reach that target with your support!

November Fundraising

·  Virtual Coffee Morning and Crossword

With our planned Christmas mini market having to be cancelled due to lockdown, we had just this one event in November, which raised just over £72.

Looking ahead to January 2021

·  Our first event of 2021 will be a ‘Lose it for the Lifeboat’ slimming challenge.  This is your opportunity to get that beach body ready for when Covid restrictions end!   Our publicity for this event will begin mid-December so you will have plenty of time to plan your diet menus.   Look out for more details coming soon.

We will need to continue to review or fundraising regularly for at least the first quarter of 2021, so details of events may be published at short notice, we appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times.

RNLI annual Reindeer Run

The RNLI Reindeer Runs are going virtual this year, so you can get involved in the festive fun wherever you are! you can head straight over the RNLI website and sign-up today.

You will have seen the publicity surrounding this year’s RNLI ‘virtual’ Reindeer Run, and I’m pleased to announce that one of our TLF members is taking up the challenge!  Cathy Craig will be doing a 10k walk along a section of the SW Coast Path – with all its twists & turns – on Saturday 12th December (rescheduling to 13th if the weather is bad).   If you would like to support Cathy from the comfort of your armchair, you can make a donation via our TLF Just Giving Page  – – if you are a UK tax payer then please also complete the Gift Aid section after inputting your card details.

Please mention in your Just Giving donation that it is for Cathy’s Reindeer ‘Walk’.

Good Luck Cathy!

Postage Stamps

With the Christmas post dropping through our letter boxes, it is a good time to remind you that we still accept postage stamps to help with our fundraising.     Sadly normal 1st and 2nd Class stamps do not provide an income for us, it’s the more unusual stamps we welcome, so please check your envelopes before you put them in the recycling, especially if they come from outside of the UK.

You can drop your stamp donations into our Middle Street Shop or Kiosk………..remember no normal 1st or 2nd class stamps please!

‘Smile’ with Amazon whilst Christmas Shopping

Don’t forget to use Amazon Smile when buying your Christmas Gifts online – and select RNLI as your chosen charity – that way a donation will be made from your purchase at no extra cost to you.

TLF membership renewal reminder

Our membership renewal date is fast approaching, as always it’s the 1st January.  Please remember to pay your subs on time – the best way to do that is by contacting our membership secretary Anne Thorpe who can give you the information you need to set up a standing order.  Anne can be reached via email

If you plan to pay with cash or a cheque, please be sure to add a note of your name in the envelope so that we know who the payment is from.   Cheques should be made payable to RNLI.

With the end of year on the horizon, our treasurer Dave needs to make sure our accounts are up to date, so if you have been holding on to donations throughout the year, please contact Dave who can let you know how you can get them to him.  You can reach Dave on 01803 666171.

So, finally from me for 2020……… we could not have imagined how this year would turn out when we sat down to our Turkey on Christmas day last year, but we have managed to get through it and still raise some money along the way, which is a fantastic achievement.    Thank you all for supporting our fundraising efforts during 2020 and lets all look forward to getting back to our normal fundraising events in 2021.    Happy Christmas everyone!
