LAST CALL for “Proms in the Garden”

“Proms in the Garden” – Sunday 30th June. Event starts @ 7pm (Doors open @ 6pm)
Our 200th Anniversary year sees the return of this very, very popular event in the Walled Garden @ Berry Head Hotel. Once again, the Concert Band from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and Soprano Donna-Marie Broomfield will provide the musical entertainment, whilst we relax in the spectacular surroundings with a nice “glass of something” and perhaps some food from the Bar-B-Que.
In case of inclement weather, we will be in the shelter of the Mulberry room.
Tickets £25 are NOW available ONLY via the on-line ticket office. There is, as usual, a small Booking Fee (£1.45p per ticket). To book follow the link www.bit.ly/TLFProms2024
Welfare Officer:
When Joan Gibbard decided to retire from running the Event Raffles we were fortunate to have Doug and Jen pick up that particular role, however we still left a gap in our “Fundraising family”, that of Welfare Officer, which Joan had always provided so well over the years.
So we really do want to find someone who will function in that Welfare role. Like most of the things we do, on its own it isn’t an onerous task, but one where, as an organisation, we keep contact with anyone of our members who is not feeling too good, perhaps send them a “Get Well” card, something, so they know they are still being thought about by us as their friends, and of course let me know so the Committee can be aware and I am sure one of us would perhaps visit them.
It is ironic that now Joan herself is recovering from a nasty fall at home recently which has left her with a broken arm. She is currently in Belmont Nursing Home and would love to have visitors.
Recent Events:
Coffee Morning @ The Manor Inn raised £367
Bucket Collection @ B&Q Torquay – £359
Fish Quay Market – £1,306
Quiz Night @ Brixham Cricket Club – £142
Many, many thanks to all who contributed in any way to those great results.
Forthcoming Events:
Obviously next Sunday’s Proms @ Berry Head Hotel
CANCELLATION!!
The proposed Coffee Morning at All Saints Church will not now take place. The Church has moved “Sea Week” to the following week which now clashes for us with Coffee Morning on Tuesday 9 July @ Harbour Light, Paignton Harbour. So usual format @ Harbour Light, £3 on the door, Raffle & Cake Stalls (donations for both Stalls please)10am – 11.30am, see you there.
Coffee Morning @ Caroline’s Kitchen, Churston
Wed 24 July 10am – 11.30 am, £3 on the Door, Raffle & Cake Stalls. A new venture for us, the Kitchen is a very spacious location however, on reflection, we may not repeat holding 2 Coffee Mornings in the same month, mainly because it puts unnecessary “pressure” on the Raffle team in terms of gathering all those (donated?) prizes and in particular the Cakes team baking all those lovely Cakes.
FURTHER CANCELLATION!!
My appeal for Volunteers to run the Souvenir Stall at Paignton Craft Markets on Fridays has not been particularly successful, I didn’t want to “chase” people up every week so perhaps the attraction has worn off and when we look back on last year, I don’t believe it was particularly profitable for the time committment.
In addition, due to the time it opens it cuts across the afternoon and evening and although we have had the occasional helping hand, going over and setting up in time for 4pm and then back again to close things down and bring everything back at 8pm is not sustainable so we will not have a presence there this year.
EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR – THE FUTURE:
I have come to the conclusion that being Chairman AND Events Co-ordinator is also unsustainable, I am not aware such a situation has ever existed before within TLF and the Committee will, next month be discussing our options. To assist this process I have drafted an Events Manual. This provides an overview of each of our Events and the Resources required to put on a particular Event.
My current thoughts are that the Co-ordinator will not be at the “coal face” on any Event but will, as the terms suggests, Co-ordinate with a Team, each one of which will have total management of delivering an Event, in the manner that Cathy & Hazel do for all our Cover the Flag events.
Notwithstanding how Committee wish to proceed on this, some of you may wish to consider if you could step forward to manage even just one of our Events. If you are unsure about all our Events, I have a list if you wish to see it!!
LIFEBOAT MANAGEMENT GROUP – LMG:
Roy Tuttle has decided that with his commitment to the Rotary and the League of Friends at Brixham and Torbay Hospitals he wished to stand down as Chairman of the LMG. This is quite understandable; people of Roy’s calibre are hard to come by and on behalf of TLF I would like to thank Roy for his leadership and guidance to LMG.
Thankfully, following an interview process, Ian Barnaby (Barny to us) has been appointed as our new LMG Chairman. I am sure the transition from Roy to Barney will be as smooth as silk and on your behalf, I would like to congratulate Barney on his new appointment.
Note: (LMG consists of representatives of the Lifeboat Station/Crew, Coastal Safety Team, Regional Representatives, our local media/social media representatives and Fundraisers).
Until next time – Take Care
Peter
