One Crew Newsletter 05082024:

Recent Events
Following costs and the Dartmouth Britannia Concert Band’s share of ticket sales, the outcome from “Proms in the Garden” was £2,063 so many thanks to everyone who supported the excellent evening at the Berry Head Hotel.
Our most recent Coffee Morning at Caroline’s Kitchen raised a wonderful £364.70p.  This is a great venue for a Coffee Morning and again, many thanks for all who supported us and of course Doug & Jen on the Raffle, Wendy, John and Mick taking care of the Catering and Barbara & Dianne on Cakes as well as Dave on the Door.

One Moment – One Crew”: (1.8.24)
Last Thursday, Crew, Crew Wives, Fundraisers (Retail, Box Collectors, Cover the Flag volunteers etc) Water Safety Team, Deputy Launch Authorities gathered at the Station where photographic Crew member Nigel Millard “herded” us all on the slipway with our ALB in the background where he used his drone to take an ariel photo of us all together.

To view our photo Google www.rnli.celebrationpage.org/onemomentonecrew

In the Search window put Torbay, and our photo will appear. Hover over the icon top right and click on the third button “Settings”, choose “magnify”, bottom left will be 2 “magnifying glasses with “+” , “-“ and Reset.  Click on a crew member on the front row or if you recall where you were stood click there, the image will magnify 4 times but although slightly “grainy” you should find yourself.

If you wish to view all the other Branches who have submitted photos to the Media Team don’t select Torbay, just trawl through the many pages (we should be on page 1)

Cover the Flag;
Currently we are approaching the “half-way” point in our current CtF programme and Volunteers are really “raking” it in for TLF with some outstanding takings both on Fore St and at the LBS, keep up the great work.

Current and Future Events:
As I write this Newsletter I have just returned from the Torbay Steam Fair at Churston.  It was again a great event and, I believe for a change, the weather was very kind to everyone.  Over the 3 days our Souvenir Stall raised £ 743.93p so my personal thanks to everyone who volunteered their time selling the Souvenirs, hope you found time to enjoy the outside activities.

“Rockfish (Coffee Morning) Wed 7 August 10am – 11.30am:
This week we return to one of our most popular Coffee Mornings at Rockfish with great views over the Harbour hosted by one of our greatest TLF supporters Mitch Tonks and his Team.  Please note: there WILL be a Raffle on the day but no Cake Stall as we want to focus our Cake-bakers’ efforts on the Lifeboat Day Stall (see below)

Crew Fest” Sat 10 August
Ron Campion and fellow Crew members will be whipping up some great Food within the walls outside our Shop at Kings Quay next Saturday as part of the 200th Anniversary celebrations.  There will be a licensed bar plus live musical entertainment.  Event runs from 11am – 10pm so there might be some sore heads for the following day’s Event at the LBS.

“Lifeboat Day Stalls” Sun 11 August.
The traditional Stalls to mark the beginning of “Lifeboat Week” will take place from 10am – 4pm outside the Lifeboat Station.  Help to erect the gazebos outside the LBS from 9am would really be appreciated and offers of help to run the Stalls (Books, Jigsaws, Cakes/Jams, etc) even for a couple of hours, again, would be appreciated.

There will also be a “Search & Rescue” demonstration in the Inner Harbour now (not Breakwater Beach as I had previously suggested) starting around Mid-day and I believe our friends from Teignmouth will be taking part.  If anyone would be willing to carry a RNLI donations Bucket around the Quay whilst the “action” is taking place, please let me know.

RNLI Buffet” @ Brixham Yacht Club Saturday 17 August @ 7pm
If the 200th Anniversary has brought anything home to us all it is the “One Crew” ethos and we are invited to this Buffet by the Crew, again part of the Anniversary celebrations.  Tickets are £22 p/p so if you would like to join with our Crew and families please let me know and I’ll gather a list and let you know about payment arrangements.

“Annual Dedication of our Lifeboats” Sunday 18 August 6.30pm on the Quay:
Please do come along and support this popular Event on the Quay (opp Bay Coffee) as we express our gratitude to our brave Crew members and wish them all safe passage in the year to come.  Music is provided by Brixham Town Band and our Shanty friends “All Hands On Deck”. Service led by Helen Lovell-Smith from the Fishermen’s Mission.

“Stand Up Paddleboarding” Saturday 31 August
To see August out we have been informed that Sean White is holding another one of his Paddleboard events which brings further fundraising opportunities to TLF.  Boarders will be going “on the water” incrementally from 3 sites and in reverse coming “off the water”;

Abbey Sands – 9.30am “on” and 5.15pm “off” (200 boarders)

Goodrington  – 11am “on” and 3.45pm “off” (600 boarders)

Broadsands  – 11.30am “on” and 3.15pm “off” (1,000 boarders)

It would be great if we could have a presence at each site with our collecting Buckets.  Obviously we don’t want to stay around awaiting the Boarders to return so, if we have sufficient number of Volunteers we can simply have one team collecting as the boarders leave their site and another team collecting as they return later in the day.

Please let me know if you would like to be involved in this event and which site you would prefer to cover and “on the water” time or “off the water” time.

Well, it has been a very busy month already and reading the above it looks like it will continue, so my grateful Thanks to you all however you support our Lifeboats and their Crews.  Finally an appeal.

“Cakes, cakes and more cakes”
Our Cake Stalls are proving to be increasingly popular at our Coffee Mornings and at our LBS Stalls and we continue to be appreciative of those bakers who provide their wares for our Stalls.  However, we really would like to “recruit” a few more people to not only bake but to run our Cake Stall on a rotational basis.  If you would like to be part of that Team please let myself or Barbara Smithson know. Thank You

Peter
