“One Crew” Newsletter 02092024

Welcome to our latest Newsletter;

Lifeboat Management Group (LMG): Roy Tuttle has found it necessary, due to work commitments, to stand down as the Chair of the LMG however we are pleased to announce that Ian Barnaby has been appointed as Roy’s replacement, Barney has always been one of Torbay Lifeboats greatest supporters and next year he will be retiring from the Crew.  His experience and dedication will continue to serve Torbay Lifeboats well in his new role in the LMG.  And we thank Roy for his contribution to the LMG forum.

Recent Fundraising Events:

Cover The Flag: CTF runs regularly from May (Pirate Weekend), late July and throughout August and I want to Thank everyone who has supported these collections so enthusiastically and of course our CTF organisers Cathy & Hazel who draw the Rotas together (not an easy job!!).  The outcome of all the Volunteers’ efforts this year on Cover the Flag has been an amazing £8,670.40p whilst the Stalls raised a wonderful £1,260.04p.

Crew Fest: A special 200th Anniversary Event drawn together by the Crew led by Ron Campion and Simon James turned out to be an absolutely inspirational (and fundraising-wise) very profitable event.  Over 2,500 visitors enjoyed the food, refreshments and music on offer and the Shop remained open until the event ended at 10pm, bringing in a record amount of sales.
As you may have read in the local Press over £7.5k has been added to this year’s fundraising total so our thanks to everyone who made the day the success it was.  And the “One Crew” will be repeating this with Crew Fest 25.

Torbay Inn: Our friends Dave and Sue Ballinger licensees at the Torbay Inn, Fisher St Paignton, once again set out to raise funds for our Lifeboats and didn’t they just succeed with a great £2,131.45p. This was the 4th year they had supported us through their Pirate Weekend and each year they have beaten the previous year’s amount.  In total they and their customers have raised £7,402.95p for us. Sadly (for us) they now intend slipping into real retirement and of course we wish them both the very best in the future, running a pub cannot be easy.  We hope their successors continue to support TLF.

Events Management: I am pleased to announce some changes to the way we organise and manage your Events Programme.  We are fortunate that Nige(l) Coates has offered to take over the Events Co-ordinator role from me from January 1st. Nige is as many of you know, a very personable guy and currently we are just going through a steady hand-over process.
To support that we have also succeeded in achieving something I have been planning for around 6 months and a number of our Volunteers have offered to take the Lead in planning and delivering a number of our regular Events i.e.

Noreen Powell & Wendy McKenzie – New Year Party and all Coffee Mornings
Angela Osborne – Afternoon Cream Teas & Annual Dedication Service
Lynda Bestley – Skittles match Fundraisers versus the Crew
Angela Lucas – Bucket Collections
Barry Goldsmith – Quiz Nights
Anne Thorp – Christmas Lunch
Hoopers Fashion Show – Sue Swallow
Souvenirs (Torquay) – Debbie Phillips
Souvenirs (Brixham, inc Steam Fair) – Peter
Carol Service – Peter
FQM & LBS Stalls – Nige & Peter
Cover the Flag – Cathy & Hazel

These arrangements are intended to relieve Nige as the Co-ordinator of a great deal of pressure and I am grateful for those listed above for coming forward to help.

Event Programme:
We intend moving from the current 6-monthly programme (April -Sept & Oct – March) to
Jan – April, May – Aug, Sept – Dec. This will reflect the financial year as well as easing pressure on Nige and Jayne Stone our Secretary, who prepares the Printed Programmes and distributes to Members.  This final year’s Programme will cover Oct-Jan (25) so we can let you know about details of the New Year Party in plenty of time.
