One Crew Newsletter 04112024:
Wow! Another month has flown by so let’s take a look at recent/forthcoming Events.
Celebrations of first RNLI Street Collection: What promised to be a great and popular Event on GWR Railway Stations turned out to be something of a “flop” for us, despite the usual enthusiastic Volunteers holding their Buckets out from 8 am until 6 pm only around £122 was collected. Not down to the Volunteers just a reflection on the “focussed behaviour” of rail travellers.
However, we organised our own Celebratory TLF Cover the Flag on 26 & 27 October and raised a great £378.79p so well done to Cathy/Hazel and the “Team”.
Skittles Crew -v- Fundraisers: Wonderful support/participation for this Event this year, with over 25 players on each team. Following Food provided by the Trawler pub a nip and tuck match ensued with the Crew narrowly winning by 338pts to Fundraisers 330pts.
Many thanks to Lynda and Graham Bestley who had the task of organising such large Team numbers so that everyone was able to take part. It is likely there may be a bit of “silverware” to play for next year!!
Upcoming Events:
Talk by John Risdon – Brixham Yacht Club Wed 6 November 1pm – 2pm.
Following his October presentation, local historian John presents Part 2 of his “Torbay’s Marine History” Talk this Wednesday. We suggest you may wish to arrive from 12.30 onwards as we will have Raffle tickets on sale and you may wish to obtain some Refreshments from the Bar. £5 on the Door.
Poppies to Paddington – Monday 11 November 6.30 am.
In our 200th Anniversary Year the RNLI has been chosen to be the main theme of this year’s Remembrance Day event marking the contribution our volunteer crews made during the two World Wars and the sacrifices that past and present volunteers have made serving their country.
Ian Barnaby, Crew and TLF members will be placing a sustainable wreath on the 6.34 am train from Paignton which will then be transferred to the main line service from Exeter to Paddington where it will form part of the special War Memorial together with other Branches’ wreaths on Platform 1 at Paddington Station.
The train will arrive at Paignton at 6.20 am so if you wish to be part of the ceremony, please allow sufficient time to park and get onto the platform. This is NOT a fundraiser for the RNLI but there may be a collection for the Royal British Legion. We do not need to know if you intend to be there, but it would be great if you could be.
Coffee Morning – Christian Community Centre Fore Street – Tuesday 12 November 10am – 11.30am.
Our penultimate CM of 2024 sees us on Fore St at this spacious location with (hopefully) plenty of opportunity for passing “footfall” from locals seeking a nice warm cuppa, biscuits and a chance to win the Raffle and buy some lovely Home-made cakes.
£3 on the Door.
Bucket Collections – B&Q (20th Nov) & Morrisons (2nd and 3rd December) 10am – 4pm.
Volunteers still required to help at these 3 Events which have proved very worthwhile as Fundraising Events in recent years, please contact Peter if you are able to help for an hour or so.
TLF Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 11 December at Berry Head Hotel.
Don’t forget to book your places at this year’s Christmas Lunch (details previously circulated). Please send your Menu choices and payment (£27 p/p) cheques payable to “RNLI” to Anne Thorp via the Kings Quay Shop or the Kiosk or by post to 7 Leader Close TQ5 9FQ, don’t forget to add your names to the envelopes. If you have “mislaid” the Menu details please let me know.
Memberships 2025: These are due in December, Anne will be at the Coffee Morning @ Brixham Yacht Club (4 December) if you pay by cash however please remember Membership fees are now £5 per year so if you pay via Standing Order please ensure your Bank is aware of the changes.

Take Care
Peter
