One Crew Newsletter 18082025:

Well, that WAS a weekend!! What with Crew Fest on Saturday and the Search & Rescue (SAR) demo yesterday and Cover the Flag seeming to have a permanent place outside the Boathouse, hopefully we can catch our breath, even if only for the rest of the week.

The final financial outcome of Crew Fest should be known in next few days and we’ll obviously share that with you but even before that detail is known I must Thank ALL those who put their very best efforts into not just the day itself but all the planning that is required to make such an Event the success it undoubtably was, the very epitome of One Crew working towards a goal, even the Shop put in extra hours and took a record incredible amount of money from Sales.

If any member of the public harboured any doubts as to the skills of our Operational Crews they will be crystal clear about their abilities following the SAR on Sunday, thanks also to the Crews from Teingnmouth and Dart who travelled over to take part.

Talking of Crews; the new series of “Saving Lives At Sea” features, this Thursday, Torbay in a quite tricky incident involving a fishing vessel, don’t miss it.

As we approach the end of August in addition to the Cover the Flag sessions at LBS over this and next weekend just 2 Events to mention;-

The Torquay “fundraising Team” will be plying their Souvenir wares together with a Cover the Flag at Pier Point on Saturday 23rd and Bank Holiday Monday whilst in between on Sunday 24th starting at 6.30 p.m. we are holding our Annual Lifeboats Dedication Service on the Quay, opposite Liberty/Bay Coffee.  Always a memorable event in the calendar, hope to see you there.

Event Programme September – January:
HERE is the Programme for the remainder of the year together with a look at January next year.  You will see that, in certain months we are fitting in 2 Coffee Mornings but note that we can’t expect donations for Cakes AND Raffle twice a month so we have alternated “what” will be available “where”, hope that is OK. As last time we have included a digital file which can be downloaded into your on-line Calendars to save you a great deal of work, and I haven’t created it so it WILL work!!

Up and coming towards end of September will be the popular Hoopers Fashion Show, tickets (£10) should be on sale very soon from Hoopers, KQ Shop & Kiosk. Our thanks to Sue Bryant for leading on this.  Then in October we pit our Skittling skills against the Lifeboat Crew at the Cricket Club and then we pit our wits against each other when Barry Goldsmith runs the TLF Quiz Night at Brixham Yacht Club.

October also brings “Lifeboat Saturday”, a national RNLI Event which commemorates the very first Street Collection in Manchester in 1891 following the loss of 27 Lifeboat Crewmen off the Lancashire coast as they went to the aid of a German freight ship.  27 widows and 50 orphans were left without their menfolk, a wealthy Mancunian financier and his wife were devastated when they heard of the families’ plight and they spearheaded the first Street Collection, Queen Victoria and the Kaiser Wilhelm also donated significant funds to help.  We will be holding Bucket Collections in Morrisons and Sainsburys, Paignton and Asda in Newton Abbot.  Please help if you can.

Take Care

Peter
