Newsletter 181223:
As promised, just a final newsletter for 2023 and what another busy year it has been for Fundraising.
Earlier in the year the Crew conquered their final nemesis, the actual Climb of Kili and as a result their efforts have surpassed £100,000, sufficient to eventually purchase a new, replacement “D” Class ILB, our congratulations go to them all.
I’ll await Dave’s presentation at our AGM in February in terms of what you Fundraisers have done but I suspect you’ll be rather satisfied with the outcome, and so you should be.
This month we held our (very successful) Coffee Morning at the Yacht Club so thank you to all your efforts there, also we have been out with our buckets at Morrisons (and B&Q will follow on 20th), and with our Souvenirs at the rejuvenated Wellsworth Community Street Christmas Market and our musical friend Paul O’Brien and his Choir have raised almost £1,500 singing outside Sainsburys (Willows) and the Methodist Church on Fore St Brixham. Also many thanks to all the Box Collectors who seem to be busy all year round.
Last week we enjoyed a wonderful social Christmas Lunch at the Berry Head Hotel so many thanks to Dave & Barbara in particular for liaising with the Hotel and arranging the seating plan.
Just a short pause amid our “celebrations”…. On the 19 December in 1981 our Friends in Cornwall suffered tremendous loss when their lifeboat, the “Solomon Browne” was lost responding to the “Union Star” who was on her maiden voyage. She still saved 4 lives from the stricken vessel but imagine how the community of Mousehole must have felt that Christmas, and on subsequent Christmas times. Another reason to be grateful to our Crew here in Torbay and those around the whole United Kingdom.
Anyway, it is approaching that time when we remember the positive things that have happened in our communities during 2023 and look forward to our celebrations in the 200th year of the RNLI’s creation.
So may I thank every single one of you who has contributed, in whatever way, to our Fundraising for our Lifeboats throughout the year. Have a safe and peaceful Christmas time and all Best Wishes for the New Year.
And one final reminder to book your place at our New Year Buffet Tea Party @ Brixham Rugby Club on 10 January starting at 2 p.m. Live music from “All Hands on Deck” and the first world-airing of a tribute song to the RNLI by Roger Smith “200 years”
