Latest Newsletter

One Crew Newsletter 07102026:

Events and News do not always allow for “regular” Newsletters (i.e. Monthly etc), so I just go with the need, if it’s 2 in a week, then so be it!!

Events:
Monday 12 October “Cuppa with the Crew” @ “Liberty” on the Quay 9.30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Hot into the Inbox yesterday came an invitation for a “Cuppa with the Crew” coffee morning from “Liberty” on the Quay in Brixham.  Some of you may recall Maxine the manager at Liberty making a similar invitation last year and a very successful event it was.  So this happens next Monday 12 October so now Greasy is putting his skates on to try to muster a few Crew members for you to chat to so please do support the event, there’ll be no pay on the door or Cakes but we’ll see what ideas they have for a Raffle.

Safeguarding Training:
Looking after each other is, within this particular organisation, a very important philosophy, especially if you are a Volunteer, you do it because you want to, therefore you should always feel relaxed in your “working” environment and valued about all you do. Sometimes however things don’t always go the way they should and that is when as a team/crew/individual we need to act and offer support to anyone who is experiencing a bit of a tough time.  It might not be directly related to your role within the RNLI, it could be a domestic situation or something similar, but the need to be able to find help is just as important.
Therefore, the RNLI is requiring ALL its staff and volunteers to take some time to study how Safeguarding can affect any of us and what to do if you are suffering or you become aware of someone who might be suffering.
I did the module earlier this week and it is not difficult, it takes about an hour to look at some of the potential scenarios and there are a few questions for you to consider.
We have until March 2027 to complete this module. Now this does not apply to you if you are one of our Supporters but not a Volunteer, it is aimed at people who are registered as Volunteers. My suggestion is that, unless you wish to, you do not do it as individuals in your own homes, but we hold a number of group sessions at Kings Quay where we can link the laptop up to the large screen TV and work through it together, I will guide you so you cannot go wrong and of course, you will not be on your own.
I will be writing to individual Volunteers so we can organise the group sessions at times to suit you all.

Peter Sparkes update:
Our Chief Executive Officer Peter is holding a series of “webinars” through which he intends to keep us all up to date with the incremental changes which will affect the RNLI in the years ahead.  Many of us will not perhaps be able to “join in” the live sessions so a copy of his presentation will be made available for us to attach it to a Newsletter in the not too distant, future. The South-West session will be screened on Monday 19 October from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

TLF Christmas Lunch Wednesday 16 December @ Berry Head Hotel 12.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.
This was going to be the main item in this Newsletter as I felt a need to discuss our meal choices with your Committee earlier today. (but as you have read, a number of other items have arisen which needed “airing”)
We have normally selected the 2-Course option but we felt today that the 3-Course one offered real value for money and certainly seems attractive.
Anne will once again have the enjoyable task of receiving your food choices, payment for which can be left in the Shop or Kiosk or to Anne at a future Coffee Morning.  BHH appear to have kept their prices very reasonable, and we always add on a couple of pounds as a gratuity for their excellent service. The Menu is HERE so as each item is numbered simply tell Anne which 3 items you would like by number.
Closing date for your choices is Wednesday 9 December please.

If you wish to sit with anyone in particular by all means say, but just check they wish to sit with you ??. (I’ll be the one in the corner on a table for 2)

Help Needed:
I mentioned a short while ago that Doug and Jen have hung up their Raffle Books after quite some time of excellent service.  We DO need our Raffles, they bring in so much income.  Anne and I are content to hold the fort for a short while but that is all, surely there are two of you who could pick this up for us?

Please let me know.
Take Care

Peter
