Newsletter 05032024:

As we slip into another month it’s time to look forward (and back).

So looking forward;-
1.       The finale of our current Events Programme sees us returning to The Cimon guest house in Torquay on Tuesday 12 March 10-11.30, Raffle & Cakes Stall.  The home of TLF Members Julia and Jamie the Cimon is a lovely venue.  It is at 82 Abbey Road, TQ2 5NP.  If you don’t have Sat Nav head for Torquay and as you reach the large traffic lights just after Belgrave Road stay left and go up Shedden Hill and Car Park, at the traffic lights at the top turn left and The Cimon is immediately on the left, there is plenty of parking at the rear of the Hotel.  It is important that we start to spread our wings and support events in both Torquay and Paignton…remember! We are Torbay Lifeboat Fundraisers not just Brixham.  And when it is two of our Members who are making their place available to us, surely we owe them some support.  See you there ?

Looking back (recently):-
2.       Well over recent months, the 200th Anniversary has dominated our minds and efforts and first of all, the Brixham Rugby Club invited us to take a Half-Time Bucket Collection for the game last Saturday against Lydney.  And remembering that we generally have around 20 minutes to achieve that our buckets and contactless machine brought in £ 513.

The following day when we experienced the momentous “Assembly/Blessing” of the “fleet” Exmouth, Teignmouth, Torbay, Dart & Salcombe lifeboats all meeting up and assembling here in Brixham for a special Service conducted by Helen Lovell-Smith of the Fishermen’s Mission.
The hordes gathered, over 300 Orders of Service were handed out, crowds lined the Breakwater and Berry Head Road and the Crew wives/partners distributed Devon Cream Teas and another £480 was received.

And on Anniversary night, in All Saints almost 300 people attended what was a really memorable evening.  Helen designed and delivered the Service and we had contributions from fundraiser Roger Smith, youngsters from the 3 local schools, the Crew’s wives/girlfriends Choir, youngsters brough Lifeboat-related items to the Altar and our Bishop James of Plymouth gave a wonderful talk/sermon, it was a truly memorable experience.

So now we take a breather before our next Fundraising season starts in April.

Opportunities to serve:
3.       At our recent AGM Barbara Smithson, our Honorary Secretary announced she would like to stand down.  After 20 years carrying out this vital role it is more than acceptable that she should be able to do that.

So, can you come forward to fill her shoes?
It isn’t a particularly onerous role but it is vital for the continuation of our Fundraising Committee.  Please contact Barbara if this might interest you, but please don’t turn your eyes away, I will be saying similar in our next Newsletter about the other Committee posts in particular Treasurer and Events Co-ordinator.

200 years
4.       Don’t forget that Roger Smith has a Just Giving page for his song on our website, currently he has raised £1,300 for Torbay Lifeboats, please consider giving him a few more £££££

Memberships:
5.       Despite phone calls and e-mails Anne still has around 15 Members who have yet to renew their Memberships for 2024, if that is you, please do, otherwise she will have no option but to delete you from the Membership list.  Why not take out a Standing Order, it is quite simple and trouble-free.

Thank you for everything you do to support our Lifeboats.
