I am starting this month’s newsletter with a question………Have you ever wondered why RNLI Lifeboats are orange? Take a look at this YouTube video to find out………..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UOOmUjYGlE
So, now you have watched the video, let’s all ‘pull on the blues and whites’ and get our post-lockdown fundraising up and running again! Here’s what is coming up……
Tomorrow 2nd May – 10am until 4pm – TLF May Day event Brixham (subject to weather)
This will be our first outside event for a while! Whilst meeting all the required Covid Guidelines, and with authorisation from the local Council to go ahead, we will be outside the Lifeboat Station with a few stalls and a Cover the Flag. Pop by to say hello and make a purchase or donation!
8th May – 10am until 4pm Souvenir Stall and Cover the Flag, Torquay (subject to weather)
Again, meeting all required Covid Guidelines and with authorisation from the local Council, we will be out and about on the Prom near the Princess Theatre at Torquay. Come and say hello, we would love to see you!
12th May – Online event – Virtual coffee morning and Word Game
How many words can you make from a phrase we publish on the day – with the opportunity to win a donated bottle of Jack Daniels! The phrase will be related to the RNLI Lifeguard service to celebrate its 20th Anniversary this year.
29th and 30th May – 10am until 4pm – Cover the Flag outside the Torbay Lifeboat Station
Help us cover an RNLI flag with donations, or tap to donate on our contactless machine!
A busy April…
Our Middle Street Shop and Kiosk opened with brisk trading during the Easter break, I think it will be a busy Summer!
Our April Virtual Coffee Morning and ‘Barbara’s Special Jigsaw Challenge’ was a huge success. You enabled Barbara to piece together the 1000 piece jigsaw of Salcombe with £250 of donations. Carol Pearson won the donated Champagne, so I think we were all hugely pleased with such a successful fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who donated, and to Barbara for her nimble fingers in placing the jigsaw pieces!
TLF 100 Club
Our 100 Club is truly up and running! The draw will take place monthly, but as we started the club 4 months into the year, to get us up to date, our first draw was on Monday 5th April – this was the January draw – followed on the 12th by the February draw, the 19th for the March draw and then the 26th for the April draw. Remember – the more TLF 100 Club members we have, the higher the fundraising and prize money!
Would you like to be more actively involved with our fundraising? If so, the best way to start is by becoming one of our TLF box collection team, minimum effort with huge fundraising benefits! We are looking for supporters to join our TLF collection box team in the Paignton, Torquay and Brixham areas, emptying our many RNLI boxes placed in businesses around the area. If you would like more information, give me a call on 07716 117875, or email email@example.com.
We have had occasions recently where second-hand items have been left (donated) outside the Middle Street Shop when we are closed. Although we appreciate such donated items when we have a specific event coming up at which we can sell them, due to unavailable storage space we are unable to accept items such as Books, clothing, bric-a-brac etc at our Middle Street Shop or Kiosk. We would appreciate it if items are not left outside the Shop or Kiosk as it means Shirley or I have to find a way to dispose of them. Thank you!
We had a special visit to Torbay Station on 23rd April. You may have seen that lurcher dog Florrie was rescued by Torbay ILB on 7th March – click here to see the video footage https://www.facebook.com/nelly.pope.9/videos/1413403619005856
Her owner Vanessa was so thankful that Florrie was safely rescued, she completed a sponsored walk and raised £1,037 for Torbay Lifeboat, and came with Florrie to the Station to present her fundraising total. Huge thanks to Vanessa for such a great fundraiser. We are so pleased that Florrie has made a full recovery. Well done to Torbay crew member Gareth for lifting Florrie from the rocks!
Torbay Station News
You may have noticed that we now have just one ALB on the pontoon again, this is the ‘Duke of Kent’ from the RNLI Relief fleet. Torbay Lifeboat is now on the Isle of Wight for engine repairs – our Crew took her to Cowes on 15th April, her return date is as yet unknown.
April Shouts: ALB – 6; ILB – 6
