TORBAY: Over 1634 1 -2 -1 Interactions in 2024

This is made up of (to date):
553 at events and 1084 on beaches, harbours, slipways etc.
We also checked over 164 lifejackets despite the new restrictions.

Our focus on beaches, manual craft of all types including SUPs and swimming hopefully made a difference to folks behaviour.
These are a bit down on last year due to weather and unavailability of team + illness etc.
Never the less it is a significant contribution, and we still lead the way in terms of proactive interactions across the whole range of sea and beach activities
You may have picked up that after 23 years I have, for many reasons, decided to retire from my Water Safety Officer role (possibly at the end of October).
We have also lost three advisors and have an another with mobility limitations.
I will continue as part of the ops team supporting Nick and the Cox with information and stats, reports etc
Recruitment to replace both me and more advisors is in the hands of our divisional base and Steve Instance, the regional Water Safety lead in consultation with Torbay senior Officers.
