September Newsletter

September Newsletter:

Well a great deal seems to have happened since our last Newsletter

Torbay Inn, Paignton:
Sue and Dave at the Inn once again held their “Pirate Day” in support of TLF and this year they succeeded in beating their 2021 total with a wonderful £1,678.  Jill accompanied me to present the Inn with a Thank You certificate which you might have seen in Torbay Weekly.

Summer Stalls at the LBS:
Great weather provided us with quite a busy day on the Stalls and the Lifeboat Crews’ WAGs also came out in force selling cream teas/cakes etc out of the ILB garage in support of the Kili Project. A total of £1,073 was raised.

Fish Quay Market:
Hot on the heels of the Summer Stalls came our annual fundraiser on the Old Fish Quay Market where the stalls combined with a very busy Cover the Flag brought in a very welcome £1,041.

Annual Lifeboat Dedication Service on the Quay:
This year our friend Helen Lovell-Smith from the Fishermen’s Mission presided over the Service where supported by Brixham Town Band and Shanty group “All Hands On Deck” we all sang our hearts out,  John Jeffrey and Roy Tuttle gave us two appropriate sea-related Readings and the Sea Rangers carried out a Bucket collection raising £388.

Cover the Flag:
This continues to bring in a good amount of donations with Dave Smithson reporting a total of £4,500 from this “seasons” events.  Our thanks to Cathy and Hazel in particular who recruit the TLF Members for each event’s Rotas.

Thank You: To everyone who has been involved in any way during the past 6 months events a very heartfelt Thank You!!

Coffee Mornings: Upcoming Events are;-

Old Market House, The Quay, Brixham Wed 12th October 10am – Noon (this will be held on the first floor but there is a lift).
Churston Golf Club Wed 9th November 10am – Noon.

Don’t forget our CMs include Raffles and home-made cakes, donations to both enable us to raise more money

Communication:
I would like to acknowledge a small number of people in particular who help TLF “get the messages out”.

Derek Hore who updates the Torbay Lifeboat website with news of “Shouts” almost the minute they have happened.

Sally Lord who designs and manages our event poster distribution

Sparks Beattie who manages our Facebook page (please do give that a regular viewing)

David Phillips (aided by wife Debbie with photos) who as our Community Ambassador regularly submits articles on TLF activities to the Torbay Weekly and;-

Barbara Smithson who has the unenviable task of getting the Chairman to produce the forthcoming draft Programme of Events in a timely (and correct) fashion

Plea: If you change your circumstances i.e. change of postal address, change of e-mail address please do notify Membership Secretary Anne Thorp on annethorp43@outlook.com so we can remain in contact with you.

Many Thanks
