Welcome to your March TLF round-up – a reasonably quiet fundraising time at the moment but we still have messages to pass on to you!
The TLF Committee met yesterday, via Zoom as we have done monthly for a year now, with a meeting focussed on how we begin to move out of lockdown and start to arrange outside fundraising events again. We very carefully considered the detail of the current Government Roadmap out of Lockdown guidance and will be working our fundraising event plan around that, and any future published advice. We all continue to bear in mind that our ultimate priority remains to keep our volunteers and supporters safe during any events we arrange.
Our event programme for 2021 will continue to be different to previous years for a while, and could be subject to change, but we hope that we can gradually and safely move back to normal.
Just one online event during February – our Virtual Coffee morning and Word Game. This was a popular event raising a final total of £176.50. The winner of the £10 shopping voucher was Bridget Etherington who managed to find 252 words from the phrase ‘Torbay Lifeboats’.
We plan to repeat this event during May to pay tribute to the 20th Anniversary of the RNLI Lifeguarding Service. Details will be published nearer the time.
Again this month we have just one event – an online Zoom Quiz on 16th March, with the opportunity again to win a £10 shopping voucher. We will be publishing full details soon.
Calling all ‘Monty Dons’
With Spring in the air, we are sure many of you are planting up your seeds, bedding and vegetable plants. How about planting a few extra this year and selling them to your family and friends, or even from your gatepost, and donating the money you make via our TLF Just Giving Site or by passing the money to our treasurer Dave Smithson. A ‘blooming’ marvellous way to fundraise!
In last month’s newsletter we mentioned that we are considering the set-up of a TLF 100 Club. I regularly join Zoom calls with other RNLI fundraising branches where I have learned that this fundraising idea has been successfully tried and tested by some of them, boosting their fundraising income, with the chance for their members to win a cash prize each month.
The 100 Club works along the following lines –
* Only current paid up TLF members would be eligible to join
* Each entry would cost £2 a month and would be paid in advance for the year
* Each month we would draw 3 entries for prizes of 20%, 10%, 5%, of that month’s fund. So, if we had 100 entries the prize elements would be £40, £20, £10 respectively
* We could operate this without any special licences or permissions
The announcement in last month’s newsletter generated 20 perspective members which sadly is not sufficient to make the set up and running of the Club within TLF worthwhile, so we are looking for more members. If you would like to be part of this Club, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Middle Street Shop and Kiosk
Our current plan is to join all non-essential retail and open our Shop and Kiosk on 12th April. Our COVID-19 safety and cleaning practices will continue, as previously, when we re-open.
In the meantime, if you are seeking Easter gifts please remember you can still purchase your RNLI items online from shop.rnli.org.
With the Government’s Roadmap out of Lockdown being published there is a light at the end of the tunnel, so filling our current vacancies will get us ready to for when we are back to a full fundraising programme.
Here is a reminder of our current vacancies……
* Retail Kiosk Manager (RNLI shop opposite Torbay Lifeboat Station). This could be a shared role between two people if preferred.
* Fundraising Event Organiser (committee position)
* Box collectors – joining our Paignton and Torquay teams who empty our collection boxes in those areas.
* Catering team assistants
If you, or someone you know, are interested in being more actively involved with our TLF fundraising, one of the above vacancies could certainly be for you! We can give you training and support for all these roles. Please get in touch – give me a call on 07716 117875 and I can provide you with more information on each role.
