Both boats launched to a missing 42 year old male swimmer off Hollicombe beach.
Mother and son went swimming off the beach, Mother came out of the water leaving her son in the water, who said to his Mum: “Would you mind it if I swam to Berry Head?”, to which she replied: “Don’t be silly!”
Mother then lost sight of son and became worried.
Both boats steamed out into bay and once they reached a line that transited Berry Head and Hollicombe they started a search heading to the beach, our ILB spotted the casualty resting in the water 200 metres from the beach.
They recovered him and took him back to the beach, where he was checked over, despite being cold he was deemed fit enough to be reunited with his mother, without medical attention.
Both boats returned to station.
A swift response by both boats enabled the casualty to be quickly located in what could have been a difficult situation, as the casualty had been in the water for over an hour.
