Solent Coastguard requested a direct-to-launch for the ILB, to respond to a series of reports of male struggling onto (and repeatedly falling off) a blue paddle board off Saltern Cove, near Goodrington. The last report stated he was clinging to one of the five knot buoys positioned a few hundred yards off the beach.
Our Coxswain, Andrew Medley immediately informed Solent Coastguard that the changing weather conditions meant the All-weather Lifeboat (ALB) would be more suitable and authorized its launch at 16.15pm.
ALB arrived at the scene at 16.30pm to find that the paddleboarder had been helped ashore by others. However, Solent Coastguard advised that since multiple reports had come in, there may be another paddle boarder in difficulty. Our ALB consequently undertook a search and check of the surrounding area. No other paddle boarders were found to be in any trouble so Solent Coastguard stood our ALB down at 16.40pm.
ALB returned to station 16.50pm.
